Wisconsin falls, 4-3, in riveting non-conference match at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Wisconsin (6-6, 0-1 B1G) went searching for its first road win of the season on Sunday against Middle Tennessee State (10-2) but came up just short in the contest, falling 4-3 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The Badgers raced out of the gates against the Blue Raiders, earning the doubles point and a lead going forward.

Senior Josef Dodridge and junior Osgar O'Hoisin notched the first doubles win for the Cardinal and White, beating MTSU's Chris Edge and Tom Moonen, 6-4. Senior Chema Carranza and freshman Jesper Freimuth were the next ones to punch the clock, winning 6-2 over Jan Porteset and Gian Issa.

In singles, sophomore Daniel Soyfer shined as he has all season. The Plantation, Florida, native won in straight sets against Miguel Negre, 6-4, 6-3 en route to a perfect 10-0 record in the spring.

But MTSU would fight back, winning at the four, five and six spots to gain a 3-2 advantage.

Dodridge pulled out his match at the No. 1 position over Gonzalo Morell, 7-6 (7), 6-1, to level the dual match score at 3-3 with Carranza still battling. The Montequinto, Spain, native, fought hard against MTSU's Moonen, but fell in a three-set thriller, 7-6, 1-6, 7-5 to give the Blue Raiders the match.

Westerman's Wing: "This one stings. Unfortunately, we gave up a few quick matches to Middle Tennessee that allowed them to get back in the match. Chema almost pulled it out for us but MTSU deserved it more in regard to the overall match. We need to keep working. We put ourselves in these situations so we can eventually get over the hump."

Up Next: Wisconsin heads back home to Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader day against Cornell and Green Bay.
