FIVE THINGS TO KNOW: MARYLAND
1. GARD IN CONTROL: With a record of 52-32 (.619), Greg Gard owns the third-highest win percentage in school history (min. 60 games) behind Hall of Famers Bo Ryan (.737) and Walter Meanwell (.712).
2. SIGNATURE WIN: Wisconsin's last trip to Maryland resulted in arguably the best regular-season win of the Greg Gard era. The Badgers knocked off the No. 2-ranked Terps, 70-57, handing them their first Big Ten home loss since joining the conference.
3. FEBRUARY FOCUS: Over the last five years, Wisconsin has been remarkably good in February, going 27-9 (.750) during the month.
4. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH:Â Wisconsin has one of the least experienced rosters in college basketball. The average experience level is 1.01 years. Only 20 of the 351 teams in the nation are younger. The Badgers' talented freshman class has accounted for 42.6% of the team's scoring this season, combining for 29.1Â points per game.
4. HAPP HAVING HIS WAY:Â All-American Ethan Happ is the only player to rank among the Big Ten's top 10 in points (6th at 17.4Â ppg), rebounds (4that 8.5Â rpg) and assists (9th at 3.9Â apg). He is also the only major conference player averaging at least 16.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.0 apg.
ALL-TIME vs. MARYLAND
Wisconsin and Maryland will face off on Sunday for the only regular-season meeting between the schools
- In the all-time series, UW and UMD are playing for the 12th time and the fifth time since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten. The teams have split the four meetings since UMD joined the conference.
- Wisconsin won the only meeting last season, claiming a 71-60 victory at the Kohl Center
- The Badgers also came out on top in their last trip to College Park, pulling off a 70-57 win over then-No. 2 ranked Maryland in 2016. UW's win equaled the highest-ranked road win in school history. The Badgers snapped UMD's 27-game home winning streak and became the first Big Ten team to win at the XFINITY Center since the Terps joined the conference.
- The Badgers and Terrapins have met in some noteworthy circumstances over the last 15 years. Wisconsin's 78-75 overtime win in the 2000 Big Ten/ACC Challenge marked Dick Bennett's final game coaching at UW. The 2002 meeting, an 87-57 Terps' win, came in the second round of the NCAA tournament en route to Maryland's 2002 National Championship.
- Highland, Maryland native Charles Thomas grew up just 17 miles from the Maryland campus. Thomas grew up a Duke and Kentucky fan, but attended several Terrapins home games.
