The Badgers cap regular season with much-needed win at Northwestern

MADISON, Wis.  The Badgers looked completely at home on the road Sunday at Northwestern. Wisconsin (13-11, 5-6 B1G) came out fast and looked confident, wrapping up the regular season with a 5-2 win over the Wildcats (9-16, 4-7 B1G).

It was none other than Daniel Soyfer who secured the win for the Badgers on Sunday afternoon in Evanston, Illinois. The sophomore fell behind early with a frightening 6-2 loss in the first frame. But he would not be deterred. The Plantation, Florida, native, calmly delivered the Badgers the win with 6-3 wins in the final two sets of his match.

Senior Chema Carranza and junior Osgar O'Hoisin were the building blocks to the Badgers' success. O'Hoisin notched the first win of the day for the Cardinal and White, with a convincing straight-set win over Antonio Fasano, 6-3, 6-2. Carranza picked up a hard-fought three-set win over Northwestern's Ben Vandixhorn, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to secure Wisconsin's third team point.

Wisconsin set the tone right off the bat by snagging the team doubles point. After losing a quick match at the three-spot, Soyfer and O'Hoisin claimed a 6-4 win to put the Badgers back in it.

The No. 7 tandem in the country seniors came up big for the Badgers when they were needed the most. The duo of Josef Dodridge and Carranza combined for a thrilling win over Ben Vandixhorn and Dominik Stary, 7-6, to capture the doubles point.

Westerman's Wing:
"Great team win today. It is always a close match when we play Northwestern. Things were loud and competitive -- I was very proud of the fight and grit we showed during. It was a perfect way to end the regular season. We look forward to carrying this momentum straight into the Big Ten tournament."

Up Next: Wisconsin will be the No. 6 seed in the Big Ten tournament next weekend, and face No. 11 Nebraska on Thursday at the University of Iowa.
