IOWA CITY, Iowa. – After a heartbreaking loss two weeks ago against Michigan, the Badgers had their second chance at the No. 13 powerhouse. Wisconsin (14-12, 5-6) fell short of completing the tall order in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, falling 4-1 to the Wolverines (20-4, 8-2).
It was tough to come from behind after the Badgers fell down a point in team doubles, dropping sets on courts two and three.
It wasn't all bad though, as UW's No. 8 duo in the country
Chema Carranza and
Josef Dodridge bagged a win over Michigan's Myles Schalet and Connor Johnston, 6-3, to remain perfect in spring.
Carranza nabbed a hard-fought three-set win over Myles Schalet, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to capture Wisconsin's lone point on the afternoon.
The Badgers pushed the first set to a tie-breaker on three of the singles courts, but failed to win any of them, putting them in a hole they were unable to dig out of. Michigan went on to earn wins on court one, four and five to clinch the win and advance to the Big Ten tournament semifinals.
Westerman's Wing: "I am extremely proud of the fight and competitiveness we showed today in the really tough conditions we were faced with. Michigan is known for their positivity and energy and I thought we did a good job of matching that with our own. We lost to a very good team but gave it our very best at several positions."
