Game Coverage

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's basketball team wraps up non-conference road play with a game at Tennessee on Saturday. Tip is set for 12:30 p.m. (CT) on CBS.

The Badgers will make just their second trip to Knoxville. The Volunteers topped Wisconsin at Thompson-Boling Arena back in 2000. UW has won the last two meetings with Tennessee, however, including a win in the most recent matchup in the opening round of the 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

Up next, Wisconsin hosts Rider in Madison on Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. (CT) on BTN.

1) BALANCED BADGERS: Wisconsin has featured a balanced offensive attack this season with five players averaging at least 9.3 points per game (min. 10 games). Twice this season, UW has had games where six different players have scored in double figures. Since 1995, UW has had six players score in double figures in the same game just seven times. Two of those being this season, back-to-back.

2) BATTLE TESTED: The Badgers ranks No. 44 in the NET Rankings (thru games Dec. 25, 2019), which also ranks Wisconsin as having the 11th-toughest schedule in the nation. UW's non-conference slate features three teams from last season's NCAA tournament: Saint Mary's, Marquette and Tennessee.

3) RELIABLE REUVERS: Junior forward Nate Reuvers leads UW averaging 15.2 points per game this season. Reuvers has scored in double figures in 10 of 11 games and has matched his career high (22 points) on two different occassions this season. Reuvers has scored 20+ six times in his career, three of those coming this season alone.

4) KING OF THE NORTH: Sophomore guard Kobe King has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games, including a career-high 24 points (10-15 FG) vs. Indiana on Dec. 7. King is one of five Badgers averaging 9.3+ points per game this season, shooting 46% FG, including 51.5% on 2-point field goals.

5) CHARITY STRIPE: Wisconsin ranks 17th in the NCAA shooting 78.2% at the free throw line this season (averaging 17.9 FTAs/game). Both are big improvements from a year ago when UW shot 64.8% and averaged 15.6 FTAs per game.

LAST TIME OUT
Wisconsin 83, Milwaukee 64

After a back-and-forth, high-scoring first half, Wisconsin settled in defensively and earned an 83-64 win over Milwaukee last Saturday.

  • The Badgers allowed a season-high 41 first half points, but then locked down and held UWM to a season-low 23 points in the second frame.
  • UW shot 50% FG (26-52), 45.5% 3FG (10-22), while UWM shot 42.3% from the floor.
  • UW had season highs in FTs (21) and FTAs (26).
  • Junior D'Mitrik Trice broke out and scored a career-high 31 points, including 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range. Trice was the first Badger to score 31 points in a game since Ethan Happ last season vs. Purdue.
  • Junior Nate Reuvers matched his career high with 22 points (8-12 FG), while adding five rebounds and three blocks.
  • Junior transfer Micah Potter made his Badger debut, finishing with 12 points (6-6 FT) and five rebounds in just over 12 minutes of action off the bench.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. TENNESSEE
  • Wisconsin and Tennessee face off for the fifth time on Saturday in Knoxville. The two first met in 1981.
  • The all-time series is tied, 2-2. Tennessee claimed a win in the only game played in Knoxville to date, a 66-56 win Nov. 21, 2000.
  • Greg Gard is 1-0 against Tennessee, serving as head coach in the most recent meeting between the two in the opening round of the 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
  • Gard was also on the UW bench as associate head coach when the Badgers earned a home win over the Volunteers in 2001 in Madison.
  • Tennessee will visit Madison next season on Nov. 11, 2020 for a game at the Kohl Center.
