AMES, Iowa – After a successful weekend in Ann Arbor at the Power Five Invitational, the Wisconsin men's track and field team will take their talents to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.
Hosted by Iowa State, the meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 8 with the men's long jump and the preliminary heat of the women's 60 meter hurdles on the track at 12 p.m. Saturday's action is also slated to begin at noon with the men's shot put and the preliminary heat of the women's 60 meters.

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of incredible performances last weekend on the track and in the grass, as freshman
Shuaib Aljabaly competed at the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. The Coldwater, Mich. Native won the national championship 8K race, crossing the line in 24 minutes, 38.7 seconds to qualify for the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30.
In addition to Aljabaly's successful campaign, the Badgers also shined at the Power Five Invitational, tallying seven personal bests and five top-five finishes. Junior
Rashid Coulibaly earned his fourth-straight top-four performance in the pole vault, clearing a height of 17-1 3/4 to finish runner-up in the event. Freshman
Stacey Boyd II also earned a personal best in the 60 meters, crossing the line with a time of 6.89 in the preliminary heat to qualify for finals, where he took fifth overall.
2. MIGHTY MULTIS: In their first heptathlon competition of the season, the Badger multi-event athletes finished strong, with two competitors finishing within the top-three. Redshirt senior
Trent Nytes was the heptathlon runner-up at the Power Five Invitational with 5,605 points, which currently ranks No. 10 in the NCAA. Junior
Paul Afflitto took third in the seven-discipline event with 5,089 points, thanks to earning three personal bests in the high jump, pole vault and 1000 meters. The Minnetonka, Minn., native's score also currently ranks high in the NCAA, coming in at No. 36 overall.Â
3. EVENT SQUAD: In the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's #EventSquad rankings, the Badgers currently rank within the top-25 nationally in three separate events. Wisconsin ranks No. 6 overall in the 3000 meters, with an average time of 8:04.19. In addition, UW ranks No. 12 in the NCAA in the 800 meters and in the high jump.Â
4. LOOKING AHEAD: Wisconsin will face some tough competition at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames, with various competing athletes having posted NCAA top-times earlier in the season. In the men's 3,000 meters,
Olin Hacker,
Zack Benning and
Zack Snider will be up against sophomore Jonathan Davis of Illinois, whose mile time currently ranks No. 2 in the NCAA. In addition, the men's 5,000 meters will be tough, featuring a stacked field including 20 athletes who have run sub-14:00 in the event.Â

5. WE'RE BACK: Following the Iowa State Classic, the Badgers will head back home to host their last indoor meet of the season. The Red and White Classic will take place on Friday, February 15 at the Shell, and the Badgers will face Marquette and UNI in the last meet before the Big Ten Championships. In addition, UW will also send a distance medley relay squad to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame.Â
