Wisconsin drops 6-1 decision to Princeton in first road match of the year

Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin (6-3, 0-0 B1G) hit the road for the first time in the 2019 season for a showdown against the No. 50-ranked Princeton Tigers. Now, all three of the Badgers losses come against highly-touted opponents, as the Cardinal and White fell to the Tigers, 6-1.

Wisconsin started the match emphatically, claiming the doubles point for the ninth-straight time this year - moving to 9-0 on the season in the team point.

The No. 44-ranked pair, senior Osgar O'Hoisin and freshman Jared Pratt, just keep winning at the No. 1 spot. O'Hoisin and Pratt knocked off another ranked team, No. 27 Damian Rodriguez and Ryan Seggerman, 6-3 to help get things going. The German tandem, sophomore Jesper Freimuth and freshman Lenard Soha, played followed the leader with their own win over Princeton's Karl Poling and Justin Barki, 6-4, to secure the doubles point.

The Badgers struggled in the singles frame, going 0-6 on the day with three of the six matches going the three-set distance.

Westerman's Wing:
Head coach Danny Westerman
"It was a really tough battle today. We started off the match great - our doubles has been great all season. We're playing the right way, we're competing hard. We just need to continue to fight and learn. It was a great atmosphere here so maybe that was a factor. But I think we embraced it well. This is going to prepare us for the Big Ten season nicely.

Back to the drawing board. Back to work Monday. We'll be just fine."

Up Next: Wisconsin returns home to the Nielsen for the Big Ten season opener against Nebraska on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
