MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team is no stranger to the Iowa Hawkeyes, as UW defeated Iowa 4-2 last Saturday in Madison.
The two teams met again on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament as the Badgers clipped the Hawkeyes, 4-3, to advance to the semifinals of the conference championship.
Wisconsin (18-4 overall, 9-2 Big Ten) quickly jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead over Iowa (13-12, 4-7) after UW won the doubles point and the sophomore duo of
Lexi Keberle and
MaryAnn Rompf quickly took down their opponents.
After Iowa went three unanswered points to tie the match up, freshman
Ava Markham competed, as she has done all season, and came up clutch, defeating her opponent 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, locking up a 4-3 Wisconsin victory.
Wisconsin last faced Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament in 2005 in the quarterfinals when UW advanced 5-2.
