MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 21 Wisconsin women's tennis team dropped just its second match of the season on the road Saturday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The border battle came down to the final singles match with Wisconsin falling, 4-3.
After dropping the doubles point to start the match, the Badgers remained cool and collected as the situation was not an unfamiliar one.
Ava Markham tied up the match at one all after defeating her opponent in the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-3.
From there, Minnesota would take two singles matches for themselves and go ahead 3-1.
Freshman
Xinyu Cai fought off the Gopher comeback to score a point for her team. She won her match in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 7-6.
Antonela Stoica tied it up for the Badgers, going into the third set with her opponent, but prevailing 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. But it wasn't enough to come back from losing the doubles point as junior
Miruna Tudor fell in the third set of singles No. 5.
