UW hits the water in unique format with head racing, night sprints
OKLAHOMA CITY -Â The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing program competed at the Head of the Oklahoma race this past weekend, and they did not disappoint.
On Saturday, the women's collegiate single sculls race kicked off the eventful weekend. Helena Ikenberry finished in ninth place with a time of 19:26.2.
In the women's open quadruple sculls, Grace DeNunzio, Madison Stack, Claire Friedlander and Helena Ikenberry led the Badgers to a by a minute and a half.
The women's collegiate four was up next, a race with a total of 31 entries.. Team A (Coxswain Claire Willett, Evelyn Payne, Alicia LeBars, Falcon Jaacks, Rianne Wagner) came in sixth place with a time of 16:00.0 and Team B (Coxswain Emma Collins, Morgan Gallagher, Aubrey Trimbach, Payton Tonnos, Hailey Carl) finished in 15th place with a time of 16;35.4.
The last race for the Badgers on the day was the women's collegiate eight, with 17 entries. Team A led by coxswain Emma Collins finished in an impressive 15:04.2 coming in fourth place. Team B had a time of 15:59.2 and came in 12th place.
Moving onto Sunday, the team dominated that women's collegiate pair race. All four of the Badger entries finished top five, with a total of 10 entries in the race. The A lineup composed of Alicia LeBars and Evelyn Payne finished in first place clocking a time of 17:47.7, and right behind them was Falcon Jaacks and Morgan Gallagher of team B coming in second place with a time of 17:56.6. Team C (Aubrey Trimbach and Camilla Darvin) came in third place with a time of 18:26.9 and Team D (Claire Carlson and Grace DeNunzio) finsished fitfh with a time of 19:48.7. Only Colorado got in the way of a perfect top four finish.
In the women's collegiate novice/frosh four, UW kept their momentum. A lineup composed of coxswain Emma Collins, Payton Tonnos, Hailey Carl, Nina Rau, and Maddy Stack clocked a time of 16:39.2, securing first place by almost two minutes.
The Badgers also competed in the Head of the Oklahoma's signature night sprints, racing 500 meters on Saturday evening.
