UW plays its final non-conference series at Quinnipiac

MADISON, Wis. – The second-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team opens the second half of its season with a road test at No. 4 Quinnipiac. Puck drop on Saturday and Sunday is set for 2 p.m. CT at the M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut.

Fans in the U.S. can watch the series live on ESPN+, while fans outside the U.S. can view the games through Stretch Internet. Fans can also follow the action on Twitter @BadgerWHockey

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers earned a 5-2 and 5-1 win over Minnesota State on Dec. 9 and 10 in Mankato, Minnesota. Nine different Badgers lit the lamp during the Badgers' second-straight sweep including captain Britta Curl, who posted two goals in the series finale on Dec. 10. Natalie Buchbinder, Laila Edwards and Kirsten Simms all posted four points during the road series.

2. EDWARDS COLLECTS WCHA HONORS: Following a successful sweep over the Minnesota State Mavericks, Laila Edwards picked up her first WCHA honors after being named WCHA Rookie of the Week. The Cleveland Heights, Ohio native tallied a goal and three helpers over the course of the weekend, tying for the most points by a league rookie with teammate Kirsten Simms. Edwards is the fifth Badger freshman to be named the WCHA Rookie of the Week and the 10th different Badger to earn WCHA weekly honors this season

3. NEW YEAR'S NUGGETS:  Saturday's game marks the first time UW will play a regular-season game on New Year's Eve as UW played Concordia University (Quebec) on Dec. 31, 1999 in an exhibition tilt. UW has a perfect 2-0-0 record on New Year's Day, defeating Northeastern, 7-2, on Jan. 1, 2011 and Quinnipiac, 5-2, on Jan. 1, 2022.

4. OUTDOOR SKATE IS BACK: For the first time since 2020, the Wisconsin women's hockey team will be hosting an outdoor skating event from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at Vilas Park. The event will be held at the Vilas Park Ice Rink (1602 Vilas Park Dr), with skate rentals available for a fee from the warming shelter through Madison Parks. Read more about the event here.
5. AGAINST THE BOBCATS: The Badgers are unbeaten against the Bobcats in their eight meetings with a record of 7-0-1. UW and Quinnipiac met last season with UW earning a 5-2 win in the series opener on Jan. 1 before the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie on Jan. 2. Current Badgers Nicole LaMantia, Casey O'Brien, Maddi Wheeler and Sarah Wozniewicz each tallied a goal in the last series against the Bobcats. This series will be the second time in history that Wisconsin has faced Quinnipiac on the road with the last time being in January of 2005. The Badgers are familiar with the M&T Bank Arena as UW won the 2019 NCAA Championship there and also played in the 2014 NCAA Women's Frozen Four at the rink.
