CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Wisconsin softball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational on Sunday, falling to No. 3 UCLA, 5-1, and to South Florida, 2-1, at the Eddie C Moore Softball Complex.
UCLA 5, UW 1
UW got on the board first against the third-ranked Bruins, as
Gabby Altobelli scored off a UCLA error in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.Â
The Badgers held onto the lead until the second inning when UCLA scored five runs to take a 5-1 lead to round out the scoring in the nationally televised game on ESPNU.
Ava Justman earned the start in the circle, going 1 2/3 innings before
Tessa Magnanimo came in and pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. Magnanimo struck out four while allowing only three hits against the Bruins.Â
USF 2, UW 1
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Badgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in bottom of the third frame.
Ally Miklesh laid down a perfect bunt to get onto first and scored on a USF error to lead the Badgers to a 1-0 lead.
USF scored in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to take the win over the Badgers.Â
Ava Justman started the final game in Florida, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run while
Maddie Schwartz pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run.Â
Skylar Sirdashney paced the UW offense with two hits.Â
Batting Cleanup
- UW heads into its first bye week of the season with a 6-6 record with seven games coming against ranked teams.

Wisconsin has the weekend off next week before heading west to the Colorado State/Northern Colorado Tournament, March 4-6, in Fort Collins and Greeley, Colorado. The Badgers will play Saint Mary's, Colorado State, Utah Valley and Northern Colorado during their time in the Rocky Mountain State.Â
