ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Wisconsin softball team started out its trip to Utah with a bang Friday morning, defeating Maine 10-2, in six innings on the opening day of the Dixie State Classic.
Offense played a huge role into Wisconsin's win over Maine as well as getting some playing time for other Badgers across the winning lineup. 16 Badgres saw the field in Friday's win. Jumping out tp a 6-0 lead through the first two innings, Wisconsin's starters including
Ava Justman in the circle made a statement from the start.Â
Brooke Kuffel – who had a four RBI day – got three of her RBI's in the first inning after hitting a base-clearing triple with Badgers bases loaded.
Kayla Konwent had two RBI's in the second, while
Ally Miklesh scored
Morgan Kummer to take a 6-0 Badger lead through two.
With Justman finishing going two full innings, holding Maine hitless with two strikeouts,
Tessa Magnanimo got the call to the circle in the third. The Black Bears were able to put together two runs in the fourth, but Magnanimo shut the door from then on out only allowing three hits while striking out eight batters faced in four innings of work.
The game ended with a four-run sixth inning for UW that all started with a
Molly Schlosser triple and the Badgers nearly batting around the order to score the four runs they needed to end the contest early.
Overall on the day both Konwent and Schlosser went 2-3 from the batters box while Kummer score three runs for Wisconsin.
