Lightweight rowing posts strong trial runs in Day 1 at SIRA Regatta

All four boats are set to keep momentum strong in races tomorrow

Oak Ridge, Tenn. - All four boats advanced to semifinal races with the women's novice four clinching a berth in the finals tomorrow on Day 1 of the SIRA Regatta. The event opens the spring season for Wisconsin's women's lightweight rowing team.
To start the day, the women's novice four competed in a trial among 19 entries. Coxswain Chloe Powell, Addison Yake, Olivia Foli, Gracie Walker, and Aubrey Trimbach finished the first race in 7:40.003, less than five seconds from top placer Central Oklahoma. Kansas State and Florida rounded out the top three in the opening race.
UW improved on its run in the semifinal with a first-place finish after crossing the mark in 7:54.967. Despite the slower time, the Badgers held an 11 second advantage over Central Oklahoma who came into the race as the top trial time.
The finals for the boat will take place at 9:14 a.m. CT.
Wisconsin's next three boats breezed through the competition in the trials.
The women's varsity four with coxswain Claire Willett, Eveline Enthoven, Tessa Cockerill, Morgan Gallagher, and Grace DeNunzio took first in the opening race with a time of 7:31.198. The boat will race at 7:21 CT in the semifinals grouping with Rollins, Kansas State, and FIT.
Coxswain Emma Collins, Falcon Jaacks, Alicia Le Bars, Claire Friedlander, Rianne Wagner, Cam Darvin, Claire Carlson, Evelyn Payne, and Darby Loveless led the lightweight eight boat with a top finish in the trials after finishing the race in 6:36.918. The team will be back on Melton Hill lake for a semifinal race at 7:49 a.m. CT alongside Kansas State A, Kansas State B, Purdue A, Purdue B, and FIT.
In the lightweight varsity four trial, the Badgers team of coxswain Emma Collins, Helena Ikenberry, Victoria Moda, Darya Pronina and Sophia Stingl stood out as they posted a time of 8:01.080. The next closest boat finished 52 seconds behind UW. The final is scheduled for 10:52 a.m. CT.
