UW looks for its fifth league series win this weekend
MADISON, Wis. – After back-to-back home series, the Wisconsin softball team will take its talents on the road to face Penn State this weekend in University Park, Pa. First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m. CT, while action on Saturday begins at noon CT and the series wraps up on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.
1. LAST TIME OUT: UW is coming off of a series win against Nebraska, the Badgers' fourth Big Ten series win of the season. The Badgers snapped the Cornhusker's 18-game winning streak with a 3-2 win on Saturday before collecting a 5-2 triumph in the second game of the doubleheader. Maddie Schwartz pitched a pair of complete games on Saturday and allowed only three earned runs to Nebraska, who entered the weekend undefeated in Big Ten play and ranked in the top-25. UW battled back in Sunday's series finale, but ultimately fell 6-4 to the Huskers.
2. SENSATIONAL SCHWARTZ: Maddie Schwartz has been stellar in the circle for the Badgers as her 20 wins this year ranks second in the Big Ten. Her 10 league wins are tied for the most in school history with UW legends Kait Menz and Cassandra Darrah. Her 2.37 ERA is the eighth-best mark in the league while she ranks seventh in complete games with 13 and in innings pitched with 141.2.
3. WALK THIS WAY: Kayla Konwent leads the Big Ten in walks this year with 33 free passes, which also is tied for the eighth-most in school history. Her 93 career walks rank fifth and she needs only seven walks to become only the third player in school history to record 100 career walks.
4. AGAINST THE NITTANY LIONS: UW enters the weekend with a five-game winning streak against the Nittany Lions after earning a pair of wins last season in Leesburg, Florida. Ally Miklesh has scored a team-high six runs against Penn State, including four runs during UW's sweep at Penn State during the 2019 season. During UW's last trip to Penn State in 2019, Kayla Konwent had 10 hits, five doubles, two home runs and six RBI en route to being named the Big Ten Player of the Week.
5. HEADING DOWN THE HOMESTRETCH: The Badgers sit in fifth place in the Big Ten with a 10-5 record in conference games as UW looks for its second-top five finish in the league in the last three years after finishing fifth in 2019. Wisconsin's final three series are against teams close to them in the standings as Penn State is sixth with a 10-7 league record, Michigan is seventh with a 9-7 conference record while Minnesota is 10th with a 6-9 ledger.

"The biggest thing is just prioritizing what's best for the team. And sometimes, that's just letting them walk me."@UWBadgers fans will love @BadgerSoftball star Kayla Konwent's answer about her approach at the plate.
