Four Badgers collect All-Big Ten honors

Konwent earns first-team, Girardot, Miklesh and Schwartz second-team
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball quartet of Kayla Konwent, Fiona Girardot, Ally Miklesh and Maddie Schwartz each earned All-Big Ten honors for their standout seasons, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
For the second time in her career, Konwent earned first-team All-Big Ten honors having also claiming the distinction in 2019. Girardot was named a second-team All-Big Ten honoree for the second-straight year. Miklesh and Schwartz collected second-team honors for the first time in their UW careers.Â
Konwent, Wisconsin's all-time home run leader, has enjoyed a sensational senior season after not competing during the 2021 campaign. She leads the conference in on-base percentage with a .544 clip, while her .384 batting average ranks top 10 in the league. A native of Salem, Wisconsin, Konwent's 37 walks this year also pace the Big Ten and she set a school record earlier this year with five intentional walks drawn in a single game.
A native of River Forest, Illinois, Girardot has been a mainstay in UW's lineup this year, appearing in all 45 games while playing primarily at the corners for the Badgers. Her .313 batting average ranks third on the team, while her 30 runs pace the Badgers. Girardot also ranks second on the team with 40 hits, .477 slugging percentage and 23 RBI.
One of four Badgers that has appeared in every game this season, Miklesh ranks second on the team with a career-high .351 batting average. The Stevens Point, Wisconsin, native leads Wisconsin with 11 stolen bases and the outfielder's .455 on-base percentage ranks 13th in the Big Ten.
The Badgers' ace this season, Schwartz broke the school record for most conference wins in a single season as her 12 league wins rank second in the Big Ten Conference. With 22 wins overall this season, she ranks second in the league and her 16 complete games are tied for the fifth most among Big Ten pitchers. A native of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Schwartz's 2.35 ERA ranks in the top-10 in the Big Ten, while her 122.1 innings pitched in Big Ten play leads all conference pitchers.
In addition, Morgan Kummer was named Wisconsin's honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes a student-athlete who has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The senior recently received the Impact Award at this year's Buckingham's for her outstanding involvement in the community in partnership with Badgers Give Back. On the field, Kummer has appeared in 42 games and has two home runs, including a game-wining home run against Penn State on April 29.
The Badgers open Big Ten Tournament play on Wednesday against Minnesota. First pitch from East Lansing, Michigan, is set for 3:30 p.m. CT and the game will air live on BTN.
