
Six events to watch: Big Ten Championships

Badgers head to Minneapolis for conference meet
MADISON,Wis.—The Wisconsin women's track and field team heads to Minneapolis for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships this weekend. Events begin on Friday with field events starting at noon and day one of the heptathlon beginning at 12:45 p.m.

Here are six events to watch this weekend.
1. Speedy Robbins: Sophomore Kiley Robbins leads Wisconsin in the 100 meters, facing a strong field this weekend. Robbins holds the school record, crossing the line in 11.44 seconds back in March. She enters the event ranked seventh in the Big Ten. Taylor Gilling and Ali Dorn will also compete in the sprint events this weekend. Gilling holds the 10th all-time placement in the 100 meters and the ninth all-time placement for the 200 dash. Wisconsin will compete in the 4x100 relay, which recently placed second all-time for the Badgers with a time of 44.53, just .05 seconds off the school record.
2. Hurdles, Hurdles, and more Hurdles: Junior Destiny Huven looks to defend her title in the 100-meter hurdles after winning with a school-record time of 13.02 in 2021. Huven is currently ranked third in the conference, just .12 seconds out of first place. Bianca Stubler looks to secure the 400-meter hurdles title after placing second in the event at last year's championships. Stubler enters the event second all-time for Wisconsin with a time of 57.19. She also ranks second in the conference, just .29 seconds out of first place.
3. Steeplechase Challenge: Graduate student Alissa Niggemann leads the Badgers in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Niggemann qualified for the 2020 U.S.Olympic Trials in the event and holds the school record with a time of 9:41.12. Her season-best time of 9:50.98 places her as first entering the meet with a 12-second gap ahead of second place. Lucinda Crouch and Peyton Sippy are also competing in the steeplechase this weekend. Crouch is ranked third all-time for the Badgers and third in the conference. Sippy enters Big Tens as 10th in the conference with a time of 10:31.37.
4. Seven events In Two Days: Jordan Hirsbrunner and Mackenzie Heyroth are back in action this weekend representing the Badgers in the heptathlon. Hirsbrunner enters the event with the highest overall point total in the conference, and Heyroth follows with the fourth-largest point total.
5. Throwing down with the Badgers: Reigning Big Ten indoor weight throw champion, Chloe Lindeman leads the Badgers in the hammer throw this weekend, ranking third in the Big Ten entering the weekend. Olivia Roberts follows with a sixth-place seed with a mark of 197-1.
Olympic trials qualifier in the shot put, Josie Schaefer, looks to move up in the event after placing second at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships. She is currently ranked fifth in the conference in the shot put and third in discus.
6. Laps upon Laps: Shea Ruhly leads the Badgers in the distance events this weekend. Ruhly's time of 33:30.02 in the 10,000 meters places her as 10th all-time for Wisconsin and first in the conference. Danielle Orie enters the 10,000 with a No. 5 conference ranking and Scarlet Dale follows with a No.9 ranking.
