ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 24th-ranked Wisconsin men's swim and dive program wrapped up its first triangular meet of the season, competing against Michigan and Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Badgers won six events to down PIttsburgh, 155-145, while falling to No. 17 Michigan, 164-134.
Newmark wins three
Standing out for the Badgers was junior
Jake Newmark. Newmark earned individual wins in the 100 free (43.63), 200 free (1:35.69), and 500 free (4:26.59). He was also a member of the second-place 400 free relay, joining with
Ben Wiegand,
Taiko Torepe-Ormsby and
Isaac Casey-Hrenak to touch in 2:57.93.
Wisconsin swept three of the top-four places in the 500 free with
Jude Williams taking third in 4:30.33 and
Yigit Aslan touching in 4:31.24 for fourth.
Aslan also picked up an individual win in the 1000 free in 9:12.21 with Willams taking third in 9:14.26.
Myrhe, Torok claim titles
Freshman standout
Dominik Mark Torok kept his individual win streak alive, earning a solo win for the third-straight meet. Torok won the 200 fly in 1:46.06 against the Wolverines and Panthers. He also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 IM in 1:49.11.
Senior
Will Myhre also picked up an individual win, claiming the 100 breast in 53.76, and placing third in the 200 breast in 2:01.93. Sophomore
Matthew Segal took fourth in the 100 breast in 55.18 and fourth in the 200 breast in 2:02.09.
Other top finishes
The Badgers also picked up top-four finishes in the 50 free where Ben Weigand was the runner up in 20.01.
Third-place finishes came from
Constantin Bensch in the 100 fly (48.68) and
Daniel Muller on the one-meter diving board (351.70 points).
Senior
Wes Jekel earned two top-four places, finishing second in the 200 IM in 1:48.12 and fourth in the 100 back in 48.78. Freshman
Cooper Scharff finished fourth in the 200 back in 1:47.38.
Up Next
Wisconsin wraps up its home season and its Big Ten Conference Championship preparations by hosting Green Bay on Friday. Events begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center. The Badgers will recognize their 2022-23 senior class in post-meet ceremonies.
