ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team made its first outing as a full team this past weekend as it competed at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The team's four freshmen -- Oliver Olsson, Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton and Tomas Zlatohlavek -- started off the tournament as they competed in the qualifying singles rounds. They went a combined 8-0 through the Rounds of 64 and 32 with Beduhn, Fullerton and Zlatohlavek all earning wins in the Round of 16 to earn spots in the Main Draw. 

In the main draw singles, veteran Mihailo Popovic  won his initial match against Luke Baylis of Michigan State, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, advancing him into the quarterfinals where he then fell to Presley Thieneman of Northwestern, 6-3, 6-3.

The doubles pairs were shuffled last weekend, with the pairs consisting of Beduhn and Fullerton, Michael Minasyan and Zlatohlavek, Gabriel Huber and Olsson, and Popovic and Jason Hildebrandt. Three of the four pairs ended the round of 64 with a win. Beduhn/Fullerton and Popovic/Hildebrandt ultimately fell in the round of 32, but Huber and Olsson advanced through the Rounds of 32 and 16 before falling to Karlis Ozolins and Hunter Heck of Illinois, 9-8, in the quarterfinals.
