No. 18 Badgers to compete on UFC Fightpass

MADISON, Wis. – No. 18 Wisconsin travels to Humboldt, Iowa on Sunday, Nov. 19 to wrestle No. 10 Iowa State at the high school, the home of Cyclones head coach Kevin Dresser.
The dual match held at Humbold High School will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass. A subscription is required and more info is available here.

Wisconsin saw four Badgers win crowns at the 2023 Michigan State Open on Nov. 11 in East Lansing, Michigan. In total, 22 Badgers competed in the Open and 10 Badgers earned placings on the podium. Read the full recap here.
Sophomore Nicolar Rivera (133 pounds) and true freshman Luke Condon (174) were undefeated in the Freshman/Sophmore Division. Rivera also defeated teammate and true freshman Zan Fugitt for the title.
Eric Barnett (125) and Dean Hamiti (165) were undefeated in the men’s Open tournament to win their first tournament titles of the season.

2. Big Ten’s Best:
The Big Ten named Hamiti as the league’s Co-Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 14 with Penn State’s Shayne Van Ness. This is Hamiti’s first career Big Ten weekly honor.

3. Scouting the Cyclones:
Iowa State is currently 2-0 overall with a recent 50-0 defeat of Davidson.
Cyclones MJ Gaitan (174) and Julien Broderson (197) both earned pins to lead the team, while each of the 10 weights saw bonus-point victories for Iowa State.
Six wrestlers also won titles at the Grand View Open with 24 Cyclones competing.
Iowa State wrestled Wisconsin last season at the Battle in the River City in Jacksonville, Florida beating the Badgers 26-6.
The Badgers currently have four wrestlers ranked by Intermat, led by Eric Barnett (5th at 125) and Dean Hamiti (4th at 165), while ISU has wrestlers ranked in all 10 weight classes. Both Barnett and Hamiti are likely to have rematches with their 2022-23 opponents, No. 17 Kysen Terukina at 125 and No. 2 David Carr at 165.

Four Badgers earned national rankings in the latest Intermat poll, while the team earned No. 18 rankings by both Intermat and the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

5. ULTIMATE FIGHTING
This marks the first time that Wisconsin wrestling will be broadcast via live stream by UFC Fight Pass as the global Ultimate Fighting Championship brand features collegiate wrestling.
According to an official announcement on Oct. 11:
UFC FIGHT PASS, the world’s leading streaming service for combat sports, today announced a broadcast partnership with Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) to launch CFFC Match Day a new, live-event series that will feature a full slate of NCAA Division I Wrestling meets in the 2023-2024 season.
“Following the successful Battle at Bragg event last year, we knew we wanted to feature more collegiate wrestling on UFC FIGHT PASS,” said Crowley Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager of UFC FIGHT PASS. “Some of the most notable UFC athletes have backgrounds in collegiate wrestling. We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with CFFC and shine a spotlight on these incredible athletes.”
The debut season of CFFC Match Day will see a number of high-profile collegiate rivalries contested along the way, including Wisconsin vs. Iowa State and Missouri vs. Illinois, along with Appalachian State, Cleveland State, North Dakota State, Oregon State, Purdue, Stanford, West Virginia and Wyoming.
