MINNEAPOLIS -Â Behind 12 event wins, the 22nd-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team downed Minnesota, 178-120, in a Border Battle on Friday night.
Newmark wins four events
Jake Newmark won four events against the Golden Gophers (3-1, 0-1 B1G) to lead the Badgers (3-1, 2-0). Individually the senior won the 100 backstroke in 47.91 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 1:46.65.
He was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Newmark teamed with
Matthew Segal,
Taiko Torepe-Ormsby and
Ben Wiegand to claim the medley relay in 1:27.92. Newmark, Segal,
Chris Morris and
Luukas Vainio took the free relay in 2:58.07.
Wisconsin also picked up third-place finishes in both relays. The team of
Nathan Welker,
Brayden Henkel,
Evan Bock and Benson earned bronze in the medley relay in 1:29.35 while
Isaac Casey-Hrenak,
Nico Butera,
Charlie Jones and Bock finished third in the free relay in 3:02.49.
Other event winners
Segal, Wiegand and Benson also won individual events.
Wiegand led a 1-2-3 finish for the Badgers in the 50 freestyle. The Sun Prairie native won gold in 20.09 while Torepe-Ormsby earned silver in 20.21. Benson completed the sweep in 20.25.
Segal touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 54.40 while Benson won the 100 freestyle in 44.43. Junior
Chris Morris, a transfer from Minnesota, finished third in the free against his former teammates in 45.18. Â
Aslan, Torok remain undefeated
Junior
Yigit Aslan and sophomore
Dominik Mark Torok remain undefeated on the season, picking up two wins apiece against Minnesota.
Aslan is undefeated in the distance free events, claiming the 500 freestyle in 4:25.35 and the 1000 free in 9:09.48. In the longer distance,
Zach Ward finished second in 9:14.33 while
Jude Williams took third in the shorter distance in 4:32.64.
Torok won the 200 butterfly in 1:45.36 and led a 1-2 sweep in the 200 breaststroke. Torok touched in 1:58.93 while Segal was second in 2:00.71.

Wisconsin returns to action on Nov. 15-18 as the swimmers head to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Invitational while the divers go to Athens, Georgia, for the Georgia Invitational.
