Box Score

MADISON, Wis.  — The Wisconsin men's tennis team showed a dominant performance Sunday afternoon at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. After nearly a month since their last match, the Badgers (7-5) defeated the Pennsylvania Quakers (5-7) 6-1.

The Badgers weren't playing around in doubles today. Wisconsin jumped out to leads in all three matches and quickly secured the doubles point.

Jason Hildebrandt and Jared Pratt got it started for the Badgers. The duo posted a quick 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Penn's Manfredi Graziani and Aditya Gupt right before Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts finished it off at No. 3 doubles. The senior duo put Wisconsin up 1-0 with their dominant 6-4 win over Zachary Lim and Harsh Parikh to head into singles play.

Singles play between the two teams was very close from the start. Three Badgers played through tiebreakers to decide the first sets of their match while one went into extra sets.

Michael Minasyan was the first Badger to draw blood. At No. 6 singles, the freshman commanded his match with a swift two-set victory. After taking the first set 6-4, it came down to a 40-40 deuce point to decide the match. Minasyan was victorious and celebrated his 6-4, 6-2 win over Penn's Baylor Sai.

Next up was Vile with his ninth singles win of the season. The senior had to battle it out in a very close match with Parikh. The first set came down to a seven-point tiebreaker at 6-all which Vile came out on top 7-4. A back-and-forth second set ensued and with extra sets having to be played, Vile garnered enough strength to close it out 7-5 and take the win at No. 4 singles.

With one point left to clinch the match, Jared Pratt stepped up at No. 1 singles and delivered for the team. After winning the first set handily, 6-4, his opponent E. Graziani, the No. 121-ranked player in the country, fought back to take the second 6-3. In a deciding third set, Pratt stayed calm, cool, and collected to cruise to the end. His 6-4 win in the third set clinched the match for the team and was Pratt's second win over a ranked opponent this season.

On the court next door, Mihailo Popovic delivered another win for the Badgers coming back after dropping the first set. He won two straight sets to take a three-set win over Gupta at No. 3 singles and put the Badgers up 5-1.

Last but not least, Gabriel Huber finished it off at No. 5 singles. He claimed the third three-set match win for the team, defeating M. Graziani 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-3.

Up Next: The Badgers start Big Ten Conference play on Friday when they host No. 3 Michigan at 6 p.m. at Nielsen. On Sunday, Michigan State comes to town for a noon match.
