Four-time All-Big Ten selection will make her second World Cup appearance next month

MADISON, Wis. -- After making a statement at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, former Wisconsin women's soccer standout Rose Lavelle will make her second appearance at the world's biggest tournament as she was named to the United States' 23-player roster for the  2023 Women's World Cup, US Soccer announced on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati native has made 88 appearances for the Red, White and Blue and has 24 goals and 20 assists for the U.S. One of her biggest goals came at the 2019 Women's World Cup as she gave the U.S. a 2-0 lead in the gold medal match against the Netherlands to clinch the American's fourth World Cup title. She was awarded the Bronze Ball as the third-best player at the World Cup.

Lavelle played a big role in helping the Americans qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, as she played in all five games at the CONCACAF Women's Championship leading the U.S. to clinch berths at this year's World Cup and next year's Summer Olympics in Paris.

During her time with the Cardinal and White, Lavelle  was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year twice, becoming the first player in conference history to win the award in consecutive years. She also was a four-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and helped the Badgers win the 2014 Big Ten Tournament Title and make the NCAA tournament in 2014 and 2016.

The U.S. opens competition at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in New Zealand with a showdown with Vietnam on Friday, July 21 at 8 p.m. CT. A rematch of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Gold Medal Game awaits the U.S. in its second game as it will face The Netherlands on Wednesday, July 26 at 8 p.m. CT.
