MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 B1G) is set to play the Stevens Point Pointers (0-0, 0-0 WIAC) in a preseason exhibition on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. from the Kohl Center. The game can be streamed on B1G+ or listened to on 1070 The Game.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Pointers:
1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: Head coach Marisa Moseley will begin her fourth season at the Helm of the team. Moseley returns Jaime Gluesing and Margaret McKeon to the coaching staff, while adding Frozena Jerro this offseason. On the court, Wisconsin returns key players in Serah Williams, Halle Douglass, Natalie Leuzinger, and Ronnie Porter. Last season the four collected an average of 37.6 ppg and 21.1 rpg. The team will also see many fresh faces including transfers Tess Myers (Duquesne) and Carter McCray (NKU).
2. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers' WNIT appearance concluded in the quarterfinal round with a 65-60 loss against Saint Louis. Wisconsin shot 35.8% (19-53) from the field and 81.0% (17-21) from the free-throw line. Saint Louis shot 40.7% (24-59) from field-goal range, including 26.7% (4-15) from behind the arc. Halle Douglass tied her season-high in rebounds with seven. The Wisconsin bench outscored Saint Louis', 26-13.
3. HISTORY WITH STEVENS POINT: The Badgers and the Pointers last saw action against each other in 2013 when UWSP traveled to the Kohl Center for an exhibition. Wisconsin came out on top 80-51. Prior to 2013, the teams regularly played each other in the 1970s. UWSP has the upper hand in games, 7-3, with Wisconsin winning the last two official matchups.
4. SCOUTING THE POINTERS: Stevens Point is a Divison III institiuiton and is a member of the WIAC. Last season, the Pointers boasted a 15-10 record under head coach Matt Hockett, who was in his second season at the time. The team averaged 59.4 ppg, with their leading scorer being Gabby Gawlitta (9.9 ppg). Gawlitta will return to the court for the Pointers this season. Defensively, Stevens Point is held its opponents to 38.2% in the field last season, and averaged 9.3 steals per game.
5. LOOKING AHEAD: The 2024-25 season will officially begin on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. (CT) when the Badgers play host to the Wright State Raiders. The game can be streamed on B1G+.
