MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin women's rowing team opened its fall 2024 season by racing at the Milwaukee River Challenge on Saturday.
The team competed in a split-squad format this weekend, with half the group racing at the Head of the Oklahoma regatta on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, and the other half rowing in Milwaukee.
Rowers competed on a three-mile course that took them through the heart of downtown Milwaukee on both the Menomonee and Milwaukee Rivers. The Badgers raced against teams from all over the Midwest, including boats from Purdue, Marquette and the University of Chicago.
Wisconsin was led by its women's open eights C boat which came in first place with a time of 18:08.079, almost 10 seconds faster than the Wisconsin lightweight boat that came in second place.
The Badgers' women's open eights C boat led by coxswain Chloe Powell also made it on the podium, finishing in third place with a time of 18:18.412.
Up Next: The Badgers will compete in a scrimmage at the University of Minnesota on Oct. 12 in Minneapolis.
