Admission is free for fans at Nielsen Tennis Stadium

  1. BACK AT NIELSEN: The Wisconsin men's tennis team will face Western Michigan as part of a joint match day with Wisconsin women's tennis on Friday, Jan 31. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Badgers will also host Drake on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. Admission is free for both matches.

  2. SMU LEAVES MADISON WITH A LOSS: Wisconsin hosted a previously undefeated SMU tennis team last Friday. The Badgers won two-out-of-three doubles matches and four singles matches to secure the 5-2 victory over the Mustangs.

In doubles action each match reached 6-all and saw a 7-point tiebreaker. The Badgers secured the doubles point with a 7-2 tiebreak win from the duo of Tomas Zlatohlavek and Oliver Olsson at No. 1 doubles and a 7-5 tiebreak win from the combination of Patrik Meszaros and Michael Minasyan at No. 2 doubles.

Wisconsin Junior Michael Minasyan showed why he was named to the Big Ten players to watch list with his decisive victory at No.1 singles. Minasyan worked quickly against SMU's No. 48 ranked Trevor Svajda, winning the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. He improved to 2-1 in singles play this season.

Freshmen Edouard Aubert and Patrik Meszaros both improved to 3-0 in singles play this spring after their victories on Friday. Sophomore Tomas Zlatohlavek improved to 2-1 after his win at No. 2 singles.

  3. KNOW YOUR OPPONENTS: Wisconsin holds an 11-5 overall record and is 8-2 at home in the all-time series against Western Michigan. The Badgers are on a three-match win streak after scoring a 7-0 victory against the Broncos in 2023.

Wisconsin will match up against Drake for just the 11th time ever on Sunday. The all-time series is currently tied 5-5. In their last meeting Drake scored a 6-1 victory.
