Five things to know: Badgers battle at home

Wisconsin hosts Indiana and Purdue this weekend

  1. TENNIS IN MADISON: The Wisconsin men's tennis team will have two conference matches at home this weekend. The Badgers face the No. 62 Indiana Hoosiers as part of a joint match day with the women's tennis team on Friday, March 28. Wisconsin will also welcome No. 52 ranked Purdue to Nielsen on Sunday, March 30. First serve is set for 4 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively and admission is free at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

  1. ROAD RECAP: Wisconsin hit the road last weekend to take on No. 3 Ohio State and No. 69 Penn State in conference play. On Friday, the Badgers fell to the top ranked Buckeyes, losing the match 4-0. Wisconsin saw a victory on Sunday, beating the Nittany Lions in a tightly contested match 4-3.

On Sunday, the Badgers lost a close doubles point, but went on to win four singles matches, including three by freshmen, to seal the Wisconsin victory. Freshman Patrik Meszaros notched his first Big Ten win in the No. 2 spot with a straight set victory. Fellow freshman Edouard Aubert played in the No. 4 slot for the first time this season and cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Sophomore Matthew Fullerton tied the match at 3-all with his straight set victory at No. 5 singles. Freshman Sachiv Kumar played hero for the Badgers, winning his third set 6-2 to give the team the match victory.

The win over Penn State marked head coach Danny Westerman's 101st victory with Wisconsin. He is only the fourth coach in Wisconsin men's tennis history to pass the century tally.

  1. KNOW YOUR OPPONENTS: Wisconsin is 29-53 in the all-time series against Indiana. In 2024, the No. 69 Hoosiers defeated the Badgers 5-2. As of the March 18 ITA rankings, the Hoosier partnership of Facundo Yunis and Jip Van Assendelft are ranked No. 11 nationally.
