Badgers suffer first loss of the season to the Trojans
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Wisconsin women's tennis fell to No. 20 USC in its opening match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Friday. The Badgers battled throughout the match, earning key wins across doubles and singles before the Trojans pulled away late.
Wisconsin opened the match strongly in doubles play, as No. 5 Maria Sholokhova and Lucie Urbanova delivered a dominant 6-0 win over No. 6 Lily Fairclough and Dani Borruel. Kaede Usui and Tianna Rangan followed with a victory over Haddad and Charney to clinch the doubles point for the Badgers.
In singles, Wisconsin picked up two ranked wins. Ekaterina Ivanova secured the first singles point with a commanding win over No. 12 Emma Charney, 6-2, 6-0. Maria Sholokhova added another statement victory at the top of the lineup, battling through a tight first set before pulling away to defeat No. 16 Jana Hossam, 7-5, 6-1.
