Wisconsin sweeps DePaul in Friday night contest
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team earned its fourth sweep of the season against DePaul on Friday night. The Badgers quickly won the doubles point and cruised to victories on every singles court to secure the 7-0 sweep.
Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek picked up where they left off in doubles action, swiftly securing a 6-0 victory over DePaul's Giles and Pardo Cano at No. 1 singles. Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros were not far behind, taking a 6-1 win against DePaul's Medica and Almeida at No. 3 singles. Friday's doubles point was Wisconsin's seventh in eight matches this spring.
In singles action the Badgers got out to a hot start, earning first set victories on every court. Zlatohlavek cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 straight set victory at No. 4 singles to give Wisconsin its second point of the night. Fullerton followed close behind with a straight set victory of his own at No. 5 singles.
Ferdinand Kloesters, Sachiv Kumar and Patrik Meszaros all earned their fifth match win of the spring Friday evening, defeating their DePaul opponents in straight sets. Senior Michael Minasyan notched his 50th collegiate match win over DePaul's Alejandro Gandini. Minasyan is currently ranked No. 75 by the ITA.
Wisconsin improves to 7-1 with two matches remaining on its non-conference slate. The Badgers are a combined 30-12 in singles and 14-6 in doubles.
Up Next: Wisconsin is back at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 15 when it hosts Purdue. First serve is scheduled for noon CT and admission is free for fans.
