MADISON, Wis. -

Laurie Nosbusch made the difference once again as the Wisconsin women’s soccer team defeated Illinois 1-0 this afternoon. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Fighting Illini and brought the Badgers to a 7-5-2 record overall and 3-1-1 in the Big Ten. UW's Big Ten record not only marks the best start since 2000, but is also head coach Paula Wilkins’ best conference record in her three years at Wisconsin.

The game got off to a slow start in Champaign, Ill. as either team was unable to make anything happen on offense. The score was tied at halftime with Wisconsin out-shooting the Fighting Illini 6-3. Alexandra Kapicka of Illinois made two saves in the first half, as the Fighting Illini couldn’t get a shot on net.

Wisconsin came out strong in the second half wanting to claim its second road win. In the 60th minute of play, the Badgers gained the upper hand with the lone goal of the game. Nosbusch finished to the left corner of the goal after taking a pass inside the box from freshman Paige Adams.

The Illini played catch-up the rest of the game but was unable to get anything past the Badger defense never allowed a shot on net. Michele Dalton didn't have to make a save as Wisconsin earned the 1-0 victory, keeping Illinois winless in Big Ten play. Both teams came out more aggressive in the second half with nine fouls apiece with the Badgers leading 8-5 in shots. Nosbusch, Alev Kelter and Monica Lam-Feist each had multiple shots with Leigh Williams and Derya Kelter adding one apiece.

Nosbusch continues to stand out making her fifth goal of the season and third game-winning goal in Wisconsin’s last three wins. The win marked the Badgers’ fifth shutout win of the season.

Up next the Badgers head home to host Ohio State and Penn State for its final home games of the season. Game times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, and 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18.
