'It's very good to get a win on our home field,' head coach Paula Wilkins said after the game. 'However, I'm disappointed in the way we played. We need to refocus and get better throughout the year.
'I'm really pleased with the attack and run by Alev. She did a great job to set up that penalty kick. It was great to see our defense get another shutout. '
Late into the second half, Darcy Riley served the ball inside the six-yard box, where Leigh Williams fired a shot that was blocked by a Bison defender. A minute later, Roxanne Carlson squared up for a shot that Bertsch got her hands on.
In the 80th minute, Leigh Williams served the ball to Laurie Nosbusch, who put a header wide from the top of the six-yard box.
Freshman defender Lacey Warner made her first collegiate start while also seeing minutes for the first time this season. Warner was part of a defense that allowed just five shots in the win.
The Bison's final attempt to tie the game came in the 88th minute off of a free kick at midfield. The ball took a hard bounce and sailed over the crossbar.
