MADISON, Wis. -- Led by sophomore Alev Kelter's (Eagle River, Alaska) goal in the 108th minute, the Wisconsin women's soccer team (9-4-4, 6-1-2 Big Ten) defeated Michigan (8-3-4, 3-2-2 Big Ten), 1-0, at the McClimon Complex on Sunday to maintain sole possession of second place in the Big Ten Conference.

"Michigan is coming off a good win against Minnesota, at Minnesota, which is difficult to do," Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said. "They are young with some strength in the back, and they are dangerous. Greg does a great job coaching in terms of organizing, so this is a great win. It is a challenging win for us."
With less than two minutes left in the second overtime period, freshman Kodee Williams (Toronto, Ontario) did a quick move to beat a Michigan defender on the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Kelter. Kelter one-timed a shot that was deflected by Michigan's goalkeeper and then followed up on the deflection by tucking the ball into the left side of the net to give the Badgers the 1-0 victory.
"Kodee beat her girl on the outside and got a great cross off," Kelter explained. "Laurie (Nosbusch) went front post, taking her player out of the mix, and left me all alone for the shot. It feels great (to get the goal). We were able to hang on to another game and hopefully we can keep it going."
In the first half, each team recorded three shots and both Michigan and Wisconsin tallied one shot on target.
"They did a great job putting pressure on our midfielders," Wilkins said. "In the second half, we started to compose ourselves a little more. We did a great job at winning balls in the midfield and that really made a difference in the second half. Nkem Ezurike was great up top and she put a lot of pressure on us which made it challenging."
After 90 minutes of scoreless play, Wisconsin, who notched four shots on goal during regulation, outshot Michigan 10-6. Each team was very physical during regulation play, with the Badgers committing 13 fouls and the Wolverines tallying 18.
"I told the team they need to just keep playing and trusting their teammates," Wilkins said. "I told them that they don't need to be hitting shots from 35 yards out. I told them to trust that their teammates will be there for them and not to be rushed with the ball. Rather than knocking balls through, we started connecting passes which was important."
In the first overtime, Michigan prevented the Badgers from getting a single shot off, while the Wolverines recorded the lone shot of the 10 minute overtime period.
Prior to Kelter's game-winning goal, Wisconsin slated the only shot on goal during the final overtime period.
After contributing three saves for the Badgers, redshirt junior Michele Dalton (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) notched her tenth shutout of the season and Haley Kopmeyer recorded five saves for the Wolverines.
Kelter's goal marked her third goal of the season and fifth of her career. The midfielder also slotted goals in Wisconsin's 1-0 win over Minnesota and 2-0 victory over Iowa earlier in the season.
The Badgers honored seniors Darcy Riley (Akron, Ohio) and Taryn Francel (San Diego, Calif.) before Sunday's match. Francel played in all 108 minutes of the contest and Riley entered as a reserve.
Wisconsin competes in its final conference match against Northwestern on Nov. 1 at the McClimon Complex in Madison, Wis.
