MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women’s soccer team (10-4-4, 7-1-2 Big Ten) defeated Northwestern, 3-0, in its final regular season contest on Monday to secure at least third place in the Big Ten Conference.

Laurie Nosbusch leads Wisconsin with two goals
Michele Dalton earns 11th shutout of the season
Kodee Williams tallies second game-winning goal

Led by junior co-captain Laurie Nosbusch’s (Mequon, Wis.) five points on two goals and one assist, the Badgers achieved their largest victory margin of the season with all three goals coming in the first half.

Wisconsin is currently in first place in the Big Ten standings with 23 points, however both Ohio State and Penn State boast 21 points apiece and each still has one league game remaining. A win is worth three points and a tie is worth one point in the conference race.

Nosbusch, who now has a career-high nine goals on the season, put the Badgers on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when she sent a through-ball to freshman Kodee Williams (Toronto, Ontario) who stuffed it into the lower right corner of the net to give UW the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Alev Kelter (Eagle River, Alaska) was credited with the secondary assist.

The Cardinal and White secured their second result of the contest just over five minutes later. Freshman Catie Sessions (Woodbury, Minn.) served a soaring cross from the left side of the field to the head of Nosbusch who one-timed the ball into the back of the net in the 24th minute.

Nosbusch sealed the 3-0 victory in the 31st minute when she followed up on a shot taken by junior Leigh Williams (Tomball, Texas). Sophomore Lindsey Johnson (Sussex, Wis.) tabbed the secondary helper heading into halftime.

“It was really exciting to come out so fast and get goals in the first 35 minutes of the game,” Nosbusch said. “I can say that is probably the first time in my career here that we have come out fast, scoring multiple goals, and keeping it up the rest of the game.

“It’s always good to score a goal, but I have to give a lot of credit to the players getting services off for me to get my head on.”

The Badgers’ shutout extended their scoreless tally to 12 games and goalkeeper Michele Dalton’s (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) to 11. The redshirt junior notched four saves for Wisconsin, all of which came in the second half, to secure the final conference victory and slate her regular season record at 10-3-3, 7-1-2 Big Ten.

Carolyn Edwards represented the Wildcats in net during the first 45 minutes of play, recording three saves, and Grace Weitz shut out the Badgers in the second half, stopping one shot on goal.

The Badgers outshot the Wildcats 12-6 in the Cardinal and White's final league showdown.

Wisconsin will learn its NCAA tournament fate on Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. (CT) when the national tournament bids are announced live on ESPNU.

“We are never really sure if we have a bid for the NCAA tournament until it is announced,” Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said.

“However, I am very confident in the chance that we have. It is very difficult to have to wait all week for the Big Ten results, but I would rather be the person chasing the title than the one being chased.  We will have to wait to see what happens but are very excited.”

The Badgers seek the program’s 16th trip to the NCAA tournament since 1985.
