MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's soccer team surrendered a pair of second-half goals as Iowa prevailed with a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at McClimon Soccer Complex. The loss came on Senior Day as the Badgers honored its six-person senior class prior to the contest.

"I don't think we kept enough passes in the front half of the field, we gave the ball away too easily," Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said. "I thought [Iowa] had great shape in their system and we played into it. When we had opportunities to get around the corner or to play people's feet we didn't do a good enough job."

 Fast Facts
• Iowa scores twice in second half to down Wisconsin
• Badgers will be No. 3 or No. 4 seed in Big Ten tourney
• Tournament play begins Wednesday at Northwestern

With the loss, Wisconsin (10-6-3, 5-3-3) remains tied for third place in the Big Ten standings with Michigan State. Each team has 18 points, but the Spartans play at Northwestern on Saturday night.

The Badgers need Michigan State to lose in order to earn the No. 3 seed via a head-to-head win earlier this season. Michigan State just needs a win or tie against the Wildcats to become the three-seed.

Wisconsin will face either Iowa (13-4-2, 5-4-2) or Minnesota in the Big Ten tournament. With Saturday's win, the Hawkeyes finished tied for fifth in the Big Ten with the Gophers but earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament due to a loss earlier this season against Minnesota.

Saturday's first half was scoreless, though the Badgers led 5-3 in shots. The Hawkeyes, however, landed two shots on net and Wisconsin had only one.

The action picked up after intermission and UW goalkeeper Michele Dalton did well to keep the Badgers in the game.

Iowa's Cloe Lacasse had a pair of scoring opportunities early in the half as she used her speed. On the first attempt, Lacasse got past the UW defenders but she dribbled too far in front and Dalton was able to come forward and make a diving steal of the ball off Lacasse's foot.

In the 52nd minute, Lacasse again found herself all alone against Dalton. This time she shot sooner, but Dalton made a diving save to her right to keep the game scoreless.

The luck ran out for Wisconsin at the 56:36 mark, though, as Iowa got on the board.

Leah DeMoss caused a turnover and scored unassisted as she shot to Dalton's left, beating the UW keeper.

"Our defense put some pressure on themselves just missing balls through, not covering each other well and doing the right they need to do defensively," Wilkins said of the team's play in the second half. "It has got to be more of a collective unit, and we were a little bit separated for what we were trying to do and we need to revisit that in training."

With just under nine minutes to play, a foul was called on the Badgers in the box, giving the Hawkeyes a penalty kick.

Morgan Showalter converted on the attempt to push the Hawkeyes' lead to 2-0.
The teams each attempted 12 shots in the game. Dalton had six saves for Wisconsin, while Iowa's Emily Moran stopped all three shots that the Badgers put on net.

Joana Bielefeld had a team-high four shots for the Badgers, while Monica Lam-Feist added three. Julia Roddar joined Bielefeld and Lam-Feist in putting shots on net.

Up next for Wisconsin is the 2011 Big Ten Tournament, which starts Wednesday at Northwestern. If Wisconsin earns the No. 3 seed, it will force a rematch against Iowa at 7:30 p.m. If the Badgers are the No. 4 seed, they will take on Minnesota at 1:30 p.m.
