MADISON, Wis. -- Despite singles victories by senior Marek Michalicka and freshman Petr Satral, the Wisconsin men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 18 Texas A&M at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Wisconsin (6-6, 0-1 Big Ten) received a doubles victory from the freshmen duo of Fredrik Ask and Satral at the No. 2 position, but fell in two tight matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as the Aggies held the advantage after doubles play.
The nation's No. 3-ranked doubles pair of Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo topped the No. 35-ranked pair of Michalicka and Billy Bertha, 9-7, at No. 1 doubles. Ricardo Martin and Rod Carey lost an 8-5 match to Niall Angus and John Lewis at the No. 3 slot.
Michalicka earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 38 Krajicek at No. 1 singles, and Satral posted a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win at the No. 5 singles position. However, the Aggies used wins in the remaining four singles slots to earn the 4-2 win over the Badgers.
Wisconsin travels to California for a pair of spring break matches next week. UW faces Pepperdine on March 16 before taking on UC Irvine on March 19.
