WENTZVILLE, Mo. -- Six different Badgers lit the lamp, while goaltender Jorie Walters earned her first career win and shutout as the No. 2 Wisconsin women’s hockey team defeated Lindenwood, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
Walters, making her first career regular season start, stopped all 19 shots she faced to pick up the win for the Badgers (2-0-0).
“It was great,” Walters said. “It’s probably the best feeling I've had in a long time. I had those pre-game butterflies but it all just panned out in the end.”
“I was happy for her,” UW head coach Mark Johnson said. “I know her parents were in the crowd, which made it a special moment for her. I think the whole team was excited for Jorie especially after the game and with her pitching a shutout.”

Jenny Ryan all found the back of the net against Lindenwood (0-2-0) to help UW complete the sweep of the Lady Lions. Wisconsin outshot Lindenwood, 48-19 and enjoyed a 102-29 shots on goal advantage during the two-game series.
“I was happy with the six periods that we played,”
Mark Johnson said. “Obviously we are missing some players but I complemented the players on their conditioning and what they did over the course of the summer. You know you watch the game and how the weekend progressed and all that hard work that they put in, they showcased it this weekend.
“It's early, but we’ve had a very good start.”
Sylvester also added three assists, while
Annie Pankowski chipped in four assists. In all, 10 different Badgers registered points this weekend, while seven different players tallied goals.
“We tried to just keep it simple this weekend,” Sylvester said. “We wanted to play our forecheck, pressure the puck, and have good breakouts. Everything just worked for us, and we played really well considering this was our first two games.”
In the first period, Josephs scored her third goal of the weekend to give UW a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Badgers tacked on two more goals in the second, as
Mikayla Johnson scored halfway through the period before Sylvester tallied a power-play goal. UW’s 27 shots in the second period were the third most in a single period for UW.
The Badgers closed out the game scoring three goals in the final 11 minutes to put the game out of reach. Sowchuk and McKibbon each notched their second goals of the series before Ryan scored with 22 seconds remaining.
UW finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play, while killing both of its own penalties.
“The main objective was to establish work habits,”
Mark Johnson said. “I thought for six periods, from the start of the game last night to the finish of the game today, we were able to work hard and played hard. Certainly we will improve as a team over the course of the more time we spend together, but the objective this weekend was meant to establishing those work habits.”
Wisconsin continues its four-game road trip next weekend with a trek up north to face No. 10 Minnesota Duluth. The Badgers and Bulldogs will meet on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. at the AMSOIL Arena.
