Ice Breaker Tournament

1. BROKE THE ICE, NOT THE STREAK

The Badgers perfect start to the season (8-0-0) remains intact after winning the Ice Breaker Tournament last weekend in Schenectady, N.Y..

During Friday’s game, the Badgers put on a show against Vermont, winning 8-1. Caroline Harvey, Cassie Hall and Kelly Gorbatebko, each scored multiple goals.

Wisconsin faced Union for the championship game and beat them 4-0. This was Ava McNaughton’s fourth shutout of the 2025-26 season. Eden, Hall and Gorbatenko put the Badgers on the board to help Wisconsin claim some in-season hardware.

2. TOURNAMENT STANDOUTS

During the Ice Breaker Tournament, Eden, Harvey, and Hall were named to the All-Tournament Team, with Eden winning Tournament MVP after a three goal, two assist performance. Goaltender Ava McNaughton was named Goaltender of the Tournament.

Also over the weekend, Harvey collected her 150th career point. The captain is the first Badger defender ever to score 150+ points. Alternate captain Eden hit a milestone as well, becoming the 13th Badger to earn 100 career assists.

3.  USA BADGERS

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team will have five current Badgers and five alumni represent the USA in the 2025 Rivalry Series between USA and Canada. Current Badgers Lacey Eden, Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton, and Kirsten Simms will join UW legends Hillary Knight, Britta Curl-Salemme, Jesse Compher, Casey O'Brien, and Anna Wilgren.

The two teams will first match up on Nov. 6 in Edwards’ hometown, Cleveland, Ohio. On Nov. 8, the crew will travel to Buffalo, N.Y., for the second game of the series.

On Dec. 10 and 13, the two teams face each other in Canada for another series.

4. AGAINST MANKATO

The Badgers have an all time series record of 111-3-3 against Minnesota State, currently riding a win streak of 20 games against the Mavericks, last losing on Feb. 8, 2020. The Badgers are 32-1-0 against them at LaBahn Arena.

Wisconsin last faced Mankato on Jan. 12, 2025, where the Badgers bested the Mavericks 3-1. During this matchup, Cassie Hall, Lacey Eden, and Casey O’Brien lit up the scoreboard for Wisconsin. The Badgers outscored the Mavericks 16-3 in their four wins against them last season.

Former Badger, and recently-named Team USA member, Anna Wilgreen spent her first four years at Mankato, where she served as Captain.

Wisconsin takes on Minnesota in the Frozen Four.

5. UPCOMING BORDER BATTLE

On Oct. 31 and Nov.1, the Badgers will play a spooky series against the University of Minnesota for a Halloween border battle. The matchup will include senior Gopher Abbey Murphy, a member of the Team USA Rivalry Series roster, along with the five current Badgers.

Wisconsin last faced Minnesota on the Gophers’ home ice, where the Badgers won 6-2 during the Frozen Four semi-final. Simms, Harvey and O’Brien each tallied a goal, while Edwards collected a hat trick.

The Badger men’s hockey team also faces the Gophers that weekend at home.
