MADISON, Wis. — After clinching at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title for the first time since 1994, the Wisconsin women's soccer team closes out its regular season at home this Wednesday night against Northwestern.Â
The Badgers (11-4-3, 8-1-1 Big Ten) look to clinch the Big Ten crown outright with a win or a draw against the Wildcats (12-4-2, 6-3-1 Big Ten). The group could also extend its winning streak to nine games and make it six straight wins at home.
In addition to title implications, a win or draw on Wednesday would secure Wisconsin the top overall seed and home-field advantage for the Big Ten tournament, which begins Sunday.Â
Wednesday's match will mark the 23rd all-time meeting between Wisconsin and Northwestern, with the Badgers leading the all-time series 17-5-1.
The Wildcats are led by junior forward Addie Steiner, who tops the team in both goals and assists with six apiece, which also makes her the team's points leader (18).
The Badgers look to keep things rolling offensively themselves, led by the midfield duo of junior
Rose Lavelle and senior
McKenna Meuer. Lavelle and Meuer have a combined total of 30 points for Wisconsin and are both tied for the team lead in goals, assists and points. Between the two of them, Lavelle and Meuer have also tallied four critical game-winning goals for the Badgers.
The depth Wisconsin has showcased goes far beyond its goal scorers, however. The Badger back line, anchored by seniors
Brianna Stelzer and
Molly Laufenberg, has proven to be as sound as ever, helping secure nine shutouts for UW this season—including eight in the last nine games.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Caitlyn Clem has also performed well for Wisconsin. Unwaveringly stepping into the starting position for the first time in her career, Clem has settled in and showed poise recently, which has also been big for UW down the stretch this year.
This Wednesday's match between Wisconsin and Northwestern will kick off at 7 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed live on BTN Plus, and as always fans will be able to follow along with live stats and in-game updates on Twitter (

Fans are also encouraged to like the Badgers on Facebook (
