MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's golf team travels to Warren Golf Course for its fourth team event of the fall season, Oct. 7-8, at the Fighting Irish Classic in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1.Last Time Out: Sophomore
Tom Calbi was a surprise standout at the Marquette Intercollegiate after placing a collegiate career best T16th (219,+3) while competing as an individual. As a team, Wisconsin finished in eighth place.
2.The Course: Warren Golf Course is a links-style course placed on 250 wooded acres of a wildlife habitat. Reminiscent of the classic, "walkable" Irish and American courses built in the late 19th and early 20th century, the course features fescue fairways, softly rolling terrain with the scenic golden dome in the background. The venue played host to the NCAA Division I Men's Regional Golf Championship in 2005 and 2010, and is set to hold the 2019 U.S. Senior Open.
3. The Lineup: Senior Jordan Hahn, junior
Pete Kuhl, sophomores
Griffin Barela,
Sam Anderson and
Tom Calbi will represent Wisconsin at the classic.
4. The Competition: Wisconsin will face Georgia Southern, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northern Illinois, Southern Alabama, Southern Illinois, Toledo, and host Notre Dame.
5. Thoughts from Coach Burcin:
"The guys took a huge step the last round of Erin Hills going low. There were only three teams in that field that had four guys in the top 36 and we were one of them. I think that day will be a turning point for us and this week will be a good first step."
