Game Coverage

Thursday, Sept. 6 | 6pm Madison, Wis.

MADISON, Wis. - Coming off a win over Illinois State Thursday evening, the Wisconsin women's soccer team (5-1) is hoping to extend its four-game win streak another game versus Loyola-Chicago (2-4). The Ramblers will find their way to McClimon Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.

1. LET'S RECAP: A goal in the ninth minute was all it took for the Badgers to secure a victory over the Redbirds of Illinois State. Junior defender Grace Douglas scored the goal, her first of the season, off a co-assist from sophomore Lauren Rice and junior Dani Rhodes. The Badgers outshot the Redbirds 15-6 on the night and had 11 corners to ISU's zero. Goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer posted her second shutout of the season.

2. A STREAK IN THE MAKING: In 2017 the Badgers posted a seven-match win streak, spanning from late August to late September. It appears 2018 could have a similar pattern. The Badgers are riding a four-match winning streak at the moment following victories over Kentucky, Washington, Portland University and Illinois State.

3. SCOUTING LOYOLA-CHICAGO: The Ramblers currently sit at 3-4 in 2018, with wins coming over UMass Lowell, CSU Bakersfield and Purdue Fort Wayne. In the victories, Loyola has scored 11 goals and allowed three, posting one shutout. The Ramblers have been shut out in two of their four losses and faced two ranked opponents in Oklahoma State and Notre Dame, both defeats.

4. WHO TO WATCH: Wisconsin's scoring has been spread out up to this point, with goals coming from Rice, sophomore Cameron Murtha, senior Emily Borgmann, Douglas and sophomore Maia Cella. Rice and Murtha lead the team in goals, assists and points. Leading the way for Loyola is Jenna Szczesny and Abby Swanson, with five goals and four assists between the two players. They are also the team leaders in shots with 22 and 11, respectively.

5. CHECK THE BOOKS: The two programs have met five times throughout the teams' history and Wisconsin holds a 5-0 all-time series advantage. The most recent meeting came in 2016 when Wisconsin traveled to Chicago and left with a 2-0 victory.
