MADISON, Wis. – The Big Ten season keeps moving along for the Wisconsin wrestling team as it is back in action this weekend. The No. 10 Badgers (6-3, 1-3 B1G) will face the Northwestern Wildcats (2-4, 0-2 B1G) at the UW Field House on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
1. BACK AT HOME: The Badgers return to the Field House for the first time since Nov. 18, when they won both duals in a doubleheader with Princeton and Utah Valley. Wisconsin is undefeated on the season at home, and looks to keep that streak going against Northwestern.
2. BIG TIME UPSETS: The Badgers dropped two tough Big Ten duals on the road last weekend, but still had three great upsets over the course of the two duals. On Friday,
Mason Reinhardt knocked off No. 16 Nick Gravina of Rutgers in a 2-1 decision. On Sunday, No. 16
Tristan Moran defeated previously undefeated No. 4 Nick Lee of Penn State in overtime 12-10 at 141 pounds, and No. 13
Cole Martin defeated No. 10 Brady Berge of Penn State with an 8-7 decision at 149 pounds.
3. TOP RANKED WRESTLERS:Â Northwestern only has three ranked wrestlers across its 10 weight classes, but two of them are top wrestlers in the country. At 125 pounds, Sebastian Rivera is the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country and is undefeated on the season. At 157 pounds, Ryan Deakin is the No. 3 wrestler and only has one loss on the season to top-ranked Jason Nolf of Penn State.
4. ALL-TIME SERIES:Â In a series history dating back to 1916, the Badgers have had the upper hand over the Wildcats. Wisconsin leads the series 62-29-2, but Northwestern is on top at the moment, winning the dual last season, 18-14.
5. NEED TO KNOW:Â The dual will be streamed live on both BTN Plus ($) and FloWrestling ($). Live stats can be found on TrackWrestling, and follow along with @BadgerWrestling for live updates on all matches.
