UW to take on Wildcats in Big Ten regional final

MADISON, Wis. -- After earning a bye during the opening round of the BIg Ten Regional Weekend, the Wisconsin women's soccer team hosts Northwestern on Sunday in a 3 p.m. contest at the McClimon Soccer Complex.

The winner of UW/Northwestern will advance to the Big Ten Tournament next week. More information about the tournament will be released in the upcoming days.

Fans can watch the game live on Big Ten Network or follow along via Twitter (@BadgerWSoccer). There are no tickets for sale or general fans permitted at the McClimon Soccer Complex at this time.

1. SOPHIA SCORES: UW closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Minnesota. Freshman Sophia Romine tallied her first goal of her Badger career in the 54th minute in the contest.

2. TOP OF THE CLASS: Jordyn Bloomer added another acknowledgement as she was honored as a Senior CLASS award finalist. The honor acknowledges a senior who epitomizes strong academic, community and athletic accomplishments. The winner will be announced at the 2021 College Cup championship this May.
3. TRIO EARN TOP DRAWER SOCCER HONORS: Three Badgers earned spots on Top Drawer Soccer's lists of the top-100 players and 100 top freshmen in women's college soccer. Seniors Maia Cella and Jordyn Bloomer were each named to the top-100 list as Cella checked in at No. 42 and Bloomer was ranked No. 46. Both players were named to the preseason watch list for the Mac Hermann Award given to the top player in college soccer.

Freshman Gabby Green was also named on the top-100 freshman list by TDS. She has helped the Badgers limit opposing offenses to a Big Ten-low seven goals in 11 games this season.

4. DOMINANT D: Jordyn Bloomer leads the Big Ten in shutouts with seven. The backline has also assisted the senior goalkeeper in maintaining the second best save percentage (.833) in the conference.

5. AGAINST THE CATS: Wisconsin has won its last two meetings against Northwestern and leads the overall series, 19-8-2. In the matchup in Evanston this season, freshman Ali Fine scored in the 76th minute off a pass from fellow freshman Gabby Green to clinch the match for the Badgers.
Northwestern is coming off of a 1-0 win over Purdue in the opening round of the BIg Ten Regional Weekend on Thursday as the Wildcats scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half to advance to Sunday's contest.
