INDIANAPOLIS -- The Wisconsin women's rowing team put up some of its best times of the season at the Big Ten Championships Regatta Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Park.
The Badgers took fourth as a team overall with 116 points, placing behind Big Ten-champion Michigan, Ohio State and Rutgers.
After scoring Wisconsin's three NCAA boats in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four, the Badgers also finished fourth in scoring with 84 points.
Award-winners for the Badgers included
Charlotte Melcher, who earned first team All-Big Ten in the eighth seat of the varsity eight and
Brandi Gueths who earned second team All-Big Ten as the fifth seat in the varsity eight.
Wisconsin set itself up to potentially hear its name called during the NCAA championship announcement Tuesday. Until then, the Badgers await and celebrate alongside their head coach,
Bebe Bryans.
Straight from the Water:
Head Coach Bebe Bryans
"We had a really, really good day today. It's obviously been a really challenging year and we've had a lot of ups and downs and not a whole lot of chances to compete, so we were so excited to be able to show up at the Big Ten championships and have everybody really step up and bring their best performances today. We did everything we could and we were really proud of everybody's performance and I think we're in the mix for NCAAs and we wait until Tuesday to see if we get the chance to keep this ball rolling. Either way, we're really proud of what we did. Props to Michigan for being the fastest team in the conference, no question about it, so they certainly represented it well and will continue to do so at NCAA's. Hopefully we'll have four teams there that can continue our strong run. Go Badgers!"
