Badgers head down south for first team competition of spring
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's golf is headed down south to participate in the 2024 Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Badgers will play a total of 54 holes from Sunday, February 11, to Tuesday, February 13.Â
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin individuals teed off the spring season last weekend at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in Statesboro, Georgia. Sophomore Spencer Turtz tied for 27th at seven-over par to lead the Wisconsin men's golf individuals at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course. 2. The Course: Designed by PGA Professional, Tom Kite, the Grand Reserve Golf Club is a unique course set right by the Atlantic Ocean. The course features seashore paspalum grass, white silica sand bunkers and a variety of water hazards. Just a few weeks after hosting the Puerto Rico Classic, the Grand Reserve is set to host the Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour.Â
3. The Tournament: Sunday and Monday's rounds will begin at 6:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start, while tee off on Tuesday is set for 5:30 a.m. CT, also with a shotgun start. Eighteen holes will be played on each day of the tournament.Â
4. The Field: The Puerto Rico Classic will feature Purdue, Charleston, East Tennessee, Georgia, Iowa, Marquette, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. Representing the Badgers is Cameron Huss, Jacob Beckman, Coalter Smith, Blake Wisdom and Spencer Turtz.Â
