MADISON, Wis. – No. 23 Wisconsin women's soccer hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to UIC on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Here are five things to know:
1. Wilkins at the helm
Head coach Paula Wilkins is in her 19th season at Wisconsin as the winningest coach in program history with a 204-106-61 record. She ranks second in the Big Ten in career victories (323) and second in conference titles (8).
2. Veterans and newcomers
The Badgers return a strong veteran core with graduate students Madison Ishaug, Ashley Martinez, and Adee Boer leading the way. Ishaug and Martinez were recently named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list. In total, 22 players are back from last year's squad. Wisconsin also welcomes six newcomers this fall: freshmen Abby Ballek, Kiara Gilmore, Sascha Beasley, Grace Dykstra, and Calypso Rolly, along with sophomore transfer goalkeeper Ali Torhorst.
3. Last time out
Wisconsin opened its 2025 campaign with a 3-1 home win over Milwaukee. The Badgers outshot the Panthers 24-2, with goals from Ashley Martinez, Erin Connolly, and Taylor Gordon.
4. Scouting the Flames
Sunday marks just the second-ever meeting between Wisconsin and UIC. The Badgers won the first matchup in 2023, a 1-0 result in Madison.
The Flames are led by fifth-year head coach David Nikolic and enter the match 0-1 after falling 1-0 to Illinois in their season opener.
