MADISON, Wis. – No. 21 Wisconsin is set travel down I-94 to face Marquette on Sunday Aug. 24th. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT) and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
Here are five things to know:
1. Wilkins at the helm
Head coach Paula Wilkins is in her 19th season at Wisconsin as the winningest coach in program history with a 206-106-61 record. She ranks second in the Big Ten in career victories (325) and second in conference titles (8).
2. Veterans and newcomers
The Badgers return a strong veteran core with graduate students Madison Ishaug, Ashley Martinez, and Adee Boer leading the way. Ishaug and Martinez were recently named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list. In total, 22 players are back from last year's squad. Wisconsin also welcomes six newcomers this fall: freshmen Abby Ballek, Kiara Gilmore, Sascha Beasley, Grace Dykstra, and Calypso Rolly, along with sophomore goalkeeper Ali Torhorst.
3. Last time out
The Badgers shut out Central Michigan 4-0 to pick up their fourth straight win of the season.
Brooke Allen opened the scoring with her first career goal in the 14th minute off a pass from Maddie Ishaug.
Erin Connolly extended the lead in the 33rd minute, assisted by Ella Ottey. Just before halftime, Hailey Baumann set up Ashley Martinez, who chipped it over the keeper in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0.
The final goal came in the 53rd minute when Anya Gulbrandsen scored off an assist from Ashley Martinez.
Goalkeeper Drew Stover picked up her second straight shutout and 11th of her career.
Wisconsin held the advantage in shots (19-5), shots on goal (11-3) and corners (5-2)
4. Scouting the Golden Eagles
Wisconsin holds a 10-5-2 advantage in the all-time series against Marquette. The two teams last met in 2023, when the Badgers secured a 1-0 home victory. Wisconsin has won each of the last four matchups with the Golden Eagles.
Marquette is currently 3-0 most recently defeating Milwaukee 1-0. This is the first time they have gone 3-0 since the 2020-21 Spring Covid campaign.
