WAYZATA, Minn. - The UW Men's golf team is in 13th place with a score of 304-317--621 after completing the first two rounds of play at the Gopher Invitational. Notre Dame holds the top slot with a 36-hole score of 7-over par 282-295--577. Four strokes behind Notre Dame is Arkansas with a 290-291--581.

Individually, Notre Dame's Paul McNamara is in first place, shooting a 66-73--139 after Sunday's play. One stroke behind McNamara is Iowa's Barret Kelpin. Tied for third are Sebastian Cappelen from Arkansas and Rodolfo Cazubon from North Texas with a 143.

Wisconsin's top finisher after two rounds is junior Anthony Aicher who is currently tied for 40th out of the 75 players with an 8-over par 74-78--152. Newcomer Thomas O'Bryan is tied for 48th with a score of 154 in his first Badger appearance. Sophomore Stephane Dubois is currently in 60th with a 158, while sophomore Robert Jacobsen is close behind, tied for 61st with a 159. Junior Chris Meyeris tied for 68th with a 164 after 36 holes.

First year coach Michael Burcin said of the team's first event, "We were very excited to get our season underway and see where we need to improve. Obviously the first and second rounds were not what we were looking for, but it is a starting point where we learn in what areas we need to improve."

Burcin contiued, "We were very proud of Thomas O'Bryanfor his efforts in his first college event. Being a 36-hole day on a difficult golf course, Thomas handled himself very nicely in a demanding situation. We are excited to make some progress in the third and final round and get some momentum moving into our next event at Louisville. Our expectations are very high as a staff for our team, and we could not be more pleased with how they have embraced some of the new standards for getting this program on the right track."

The Gopher Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Monday.
