Strong final round propels Badgers to ninth place at Windon Memorial

GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Despite a windy day, sophomore Jordan Hahn finished in a tie for second place at the Windon Memorial Classic at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois. Finishing at 4-under (70-67-75=212), Hahn matched his career-best finish and was just one stroke off his career low 54-hole total. In finishing just three strokes out of the lead, Hahn picked up his second top-five finish as a Badger.

"I'm very, very proud of Jordan and what he did this week," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "That was a very good field and he has had a couple chances to win in the last year so that was a huge step for him. Today was a really tough, windy day and in the end it is just plain hard to win golf tournaments."

As a team, Wisconsin was able to climb two places in the final round to place ninth.

"Overall we played great today, we were the fourth best round of the day out of the entire field," Burcin said. "We played unbelievably well in the first 12 holes but we just need to be more consistent. We're seeing a lot of good things out of our young guys and we seem to have a round or a round and a half that are really good every week and then the rest will be average or below average."

At 6-over, junior Eddie Wajda (73-75-74=222) tied for 24th place to finish as the Badgers' second-best golfer. Freshman Nick Robinson (77-76-74=227) fired off a 2-over 74 in the final round to jump up the leaderboard and tie for 40th, while senior Ben Skogen (76-80-76=232) finished at 16-over to sit in a tie for 63rd. Freshman Pete Kuhl's (81-81-73=235) 1-over 73 final round performance moved him six spots up the leaderboard to tie for 71st.

Florida (-3) took home the tournament title, while Eastern Michigan (+4), Michigan (+6), Northwestern (+9) and UC Davis (+17) rounded out the top five. Wisconsin (296-298-296=890) finished just three strokes behind eighth-place Iowa, four behind Purdue and five off of Princeton.

The Badgers will stay in-state for their next tournament as UW competes in the Marquette Invitational at the Milwaukee Country Club from Sunday to Monday.
