UW flies south for last two tournaments of fall season

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's golf team heads down south for the final two weeks of the fall season, first taking on the Bryson Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday at the Daniel Island Club.

Five Badgers will start in the lineup, with a sixth competing individually: Spencer Turtz, Jacob Beckman, William Harned, Charles Erlandson, Vijay Kumar and James Boustead (Ind.).

Fans can follow the action on Instagram @BadgerMensGolf or on x @BadgerMGolf.

1. OVERWATCH: The Badgers come into their fourth tournament of the season off the backs of a 12th-place finish at the prestigious Erin Hills. They'll return all five starters to the lineup Monday as a drastic shift in courses looms. Whereas Erin Hills is notorious for the undulating, feskew-ridden, links style of golf, Daniel Island's Ralston Creek Course is a more strategic endeavor with bunkers littered throughout the establishment. The Badgers will take on a prestigious field, playing the likes of Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Charleston, BYU, Kansas and several others.

2. SETTING THE PACE: Senior Spencer Turtz has led the Badger in back-to-back events now, finishing in the top-35 both times. The Charlotte native makes his 23rd career start this week.  He paced UW at the Badger Invitational,  placing 29th at +3, before coming in 34th at Erin Hills last weekend.

3. FINDING A SPARK: Sophomore William Harned has been UW's most consistent golfer of the fall campaign, scoring in every round this year. He's notched three top-50 finishes this fall, highlighted by a 38th-place go at the Gopher Invitational. He followed that up in 47th at the Badger, and 48th last weekend in Erin Hills.

True freshman Vijay Kumar earned his first career start last weekend, coming in 62nd. He earned the start after competing  individually at the Badger Invitational, tying for the highest UW finisher in 29th at +3 thanks to a final-round 69 (-3). Kumar led the entire field in Par 3 average at TPC Wisconsin that week.

4.SENIOR EXPERIENCE: Joining Turtz in the leadership role is fifth-year Jacob Beckman, who will play in his 28th career event. The Middleton native already has a top-20 finish to his name this fall, using a bogey-free final-round 69 at the Gopher Invitational to finish +4 and 20th overall.

5. ROUNDING OUT THE CARD: Junior Charles Erlandson and James Boustead are back in action, with Erlandson making the start and Boustead in the individual slot. Erlandson appeared in all 10 tournaments as a redshirt freshman last year, and has scored for the Badgers in all three starts this season. Boustead returns to the fold after a week off at Erin Hills. The South African earned his first career top-10 finish at the season-opening Gopher Invitational, shooting a personal-best -1.

6. CATCH YOU ON THE FLIP: The Badgers stay on the road next week for the fall finale in Biloxi, Mississippi. They'll compete in the prestigious Fallen Oak Invitational, a tightly contested field with several future NCAA Tournament teams.
