Badgers finish second at Charleston Shootout

Nick Robinson ties for second to lead UW

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Up against strong winds and a notoriously difficult course, the Wisconsin men's golf team opened the spring season on Saturday by finishing in second place at the Charleston Shootout held at the Osprey Point Golf Club.

The Badgers (295-297=592) finished just four strokes behind champion Marquette (285-303=588) while Charleston Southern took third (295-307=602) in the one-day, 36-hole event.

"Proud of the fight the guys showed," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "It was very difficult out there with the winds and the difficult golf course. The afternoon round was a really good round of golf by the guys."

Freshman Nick Robinson (76-69=145) finished as UW's top golfer and tied for second overall. In the second round, Robinson matched his career low with a 3-under 69 to jump up the players leaderboard.

At three strokes back, sophomore Jordan Hahn (75-73=148) tied for fourth place while junior Eddie Wajda (77-73=150) finished at 6-over to nab seventh place.

Both sophomore Brett Robinson (75-77=152) and senior Ben Skogen (78-74=152) finished at 8-over to tie for tenth place. Freshman Pete Kuhl (78-78=156) fired back-to-back 6-over 78s to finish 15th overall.

Competing as individuals, senior Tommy Schofield (81-85=166) and junior Michael Abrahamson (84-85=169) finished 20th and 22nd, respectively.

"This was a good way to ease into the spring in that everyone got to play and from first through sixth it showed that we have some depth," Burcin said.

Up next, the Badgers head to Humble, Texas, to compete in the All-American Intercollegiate from Feb. 17-19 at the Golf Club of Houston.
